We are pleased to hold a solo exhibition of new artworks by Myeongbeom Kim(b.1976). He graduated from the University of Seoul and received a master’s degree in art from the Chicago Art Institute. Kim has held his shows in several American, European and Asian museums, and galleries. In the ‘Horizontal Time’exhibition of Art Space Purl, you will meet his eight new artworks!

The ‘Horizontal Time’ is the visual perception point where the artist perceives the time he can and cannot see.
This point is the establishing relationship that contains the artist’s thoughts to see and sense everyday objects. Today’s modern physics unites the relationship between time and space into a single quantity in the sense of “a continuum of time and space.” Therefore, Myeongbeom Kim’s “Horizontal Time” is a combination of objects containing an artist’s time and space interpretation. /Okreal Kim
김명범의 이번 전시의 대표작이라 할 수 있는 「수평의 오각」은 공간과 시간의 관계를 A4용지의 잘린 모서리를 기준으로 수직과 수평의 관계를 재설정해 황금비로 만들었다. 사각에서 오각으로 변형된 용지가 확장된 형태인 「수평의 오각」은 수평의 눈금과 넓이라는 공간의 균형을 위해 확장된 공간 속에서 기능과 의미의 관계가 재정립되는 지점, 조각과 회화의 경계를 넘어 특수한 오브제가 되었다. (김옥렬)
An object familiar with not only an artist but everyone is a kind of intersection. If an artist expresses his artworks with the object where an artist and the gallery-goer meet, it can be an accessible description. /Myeongbeom Kim
작가도 익히 알고 있고 감상자도 알고 있는 오브제는 일종의 교집합에 해당됩니다. 작가와 감상자가 만나는 지점에 위치해 있는 오브제로 이야기를 풀어 갈 경우 아주 쉬운 서술이 될 수 있죠. (김명범)
His representative work, 「Horizontal Pentagon」 shows a golden ratio of the relation of time and space. It reconstructs it with resetting vertical and horizontal of an A4 paper. The “Horizontal Pentagon”, Kim transformed and expanded from an A4 paper square to a pentagon, becomes the extraordinary object in terms of the phrase beyond the boundary between the sculpture and painting. /Okreal Kim
